ispeak: Media View of Workers

In your opinion does the media accurately represent working people as it portrays them in TV shows, movies and other forms of popular entertainment? Do you see your real life experience as a health care worker accurately represented in the media and the entertainment industry?

Yes, healthcare employees should work in tv commercial. We do not have to act it out. We feel the work!

I have that sometimes during the course of my work, I feel like I'm a character in a television medical drama. The stress, tension and drama that exists in a real hospital job can never be accurately represented in a scripted program. There are just too many variables, too many possibilities, and most issues take more than an hour to resolve. As I often say in the middle of a hectic shift: You can't make this stuff up!

Racism has always been a problem. The issue never disappeared. It was just under the carpet for a while. You notice it in all the universities that are mainly populated by whites. We just need to face the problems and address it everyday not just one day.

The media doesn't even come close to portraying the job that I do as a nurse in the hospital. TV shows are such a mockery of all of the hard work and short staffing that not only I as a nurse do, but all of my coworkers. Who’s writing that crap anyway? They must not be a healthcare worker.

I do not think the media accurately portrays me as a healthcare worker—not on the news or the entertainment industry. They do not show how a healthcare worker struggles with day to day real life issues; for example health insurance issues, fighting with bosses for their rights, union issues. There is just so much that you don't see or hear about. They just make everything seem like it is just perfect.
