iSpeak: President's Question: Stem Cell Research

There is controversy concerning stem cell research. As a member of a healthcare Union what is your opinion on this subject?

Congrats as President of 1199. I strongly agree we should have stem cell research. I believe it will save many lives. The government and private research should work together towards a cure of diseases

I strongly support stem cell research. This could open a lot of doors for patient lives.

As long as we don not take life to do this (and I do not believe so), then we should use this method to save lives.

Stem cell research has not yielded any new discoveries throughout the world or cured any diseases to date. Politicians and fundraising organizations care little about the sacredness of life.
I don't trust either.

We need to continue the research to cure cancer, diabetes, etc. and stop involving religion in to the issue of health care.

I am not in favor of using stem cells from fetal tissue. I have no problem with cord blood stem cells or stem cells collected from living donors.

Do not deny us the benefits that science has to offer. Stem cell research and use should be given top priority here in this country. In my humble opinion and limited knowledge, it could well be the next best thing since the discovery of Penicillin.

Last October, I had the opportunity of visiting The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany, Our tour-guide told me that in Belgium the use of stem cells is practiced without all the fuss that we have in America. She underwent both knee replacements very successfully with the use of stem cells. No metal pins or articulations, simple regrowth of normal healthy tissues. It made sit back and wonder what is wrong with our country. Is the fact that finding a cure for diseases would not be profitable for the insurance companies that are running roughshod over our healthcare system? Is it a matter of ethics or profits or a combination of both that has kept us from this promising and proven form of treatment? I believe the time has come for America to make another "giant step forward for mankind".
